WHAT IS SHAMANISM?
Shamanism is not a religion. It is, however, the most ancient spiritual practice known to humankind. We know from archaeological evidence that the practice dates back at least 40,000 years. Some anthropologists believe that the practice dates back over 100,000 years.
The word “shaman” comes from the Tungus tribe in Siberia and it means spiritual healer or one who sees in the dark. Shamanism has been practiced in Siberia, Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, Greenland, and native North and South Americas.
In fact, for thousands of years, indigenous medicine men and women, from all corners of our planet, carefully guarded and passed on their wisdom teachings for the health and well being of their people, and acted as stewards or guardians of the natural world. These “Earthkeepers” teach that all of creation – the earth, trees, humans, animals, plants, rocks, and even the stars – is made of vibration and light.
A shaman is a man or woman who uses the ability to see “with the strong eye” or “with the heart” to travel into hidden realms. The shaman interacts directly with the spirits to address the spiritual aspect of illness and perform soul retrievals, retrieve lost power, as well as remove spiritual blockages. For millennia, shamans have acted as healers, doctors, priests and priestesses, psychotherapists, mystics, and storytellers.
Shamanism teaches us that everything that exists is alive and has a spirit. Shamans speak of a web of energy that connects all of life and the spirit that lives in all things. Everything on earth is interconnected and any belief that we are separate from other life forms, including the earth, stars, wind etc, is purely an illusion. And it is the shaman’s role in the community to keep harmony and balance between humankind and the forces of nature.
One of the major ceremonies a shaman performs is called a shamanic journey. Using a drum or a rattle, the shaman goes into an altered state of consciousness and travels outside of time into the hidden realms that many term non-ordinary. The Australian aborigines call non-ordinary the "Dreamtime". It is also referred to as the "Other World" in Celtic traditions.
In these hidden realities there are helping, compassionate spirits who offer their guidance and healing in order to benefit all life on earth.
The shaman recognises that there are four levels of Creation, reflected in each human being. These are the physical, the mind, the soul and the spirit. Each one of these has its own language: The language of the body is bio-chemical, physical, molecular. The language of the mind is words. It is all the stories that we tell ourselves, from which our belief systems and perceptions of life are formed. The language of the soul is images; it is ceremony, rituals, mythic journeys, metaphor, and has the powerful potential for us to let go of our limiting stories and negative belief systems that we've been carrying, and begin to create new, more inspiring and purposeful ones. The language of spirit is pure energy. The shaman learns to pass from one level of perception to another, to dance between these different worlds, in order to guide their client towards a new healing path.
The Luminous Energy Field
We all have a Luminous Energy Field surrounding our physical bodies, which extends around us to approximately the width of our outstretched arms. The Luminous Energy Field (LEF) contains an archive of all of our personal and ancestral memories, early-life trauma and wounds from former lifetimes.
These records or imprints are stored in full color and intensity of emotion. Imprints are like dormant computer programs that, when activated, compel us toward behaviors, relationships, accidents, and illnesses that parody the initial wounding. Our personal history repeats itself. Imprints of physical trauma are stored in the outermost layer of the LEF.
Emotional imprints are stored in the second layer, soul imprints in the third, and spiritual imprints in the fourth and deepest layer. Imprints in the LEF predispose us to follow certain pathways in life; they orchestrate incidents, experiences, and the people we attract to ourselves.
The LEF contains a template of how we live, how we age, how we heal, and how we might die. When there is no imprint for disease in the LEF, recovery from an illness happens at tremendous speed. By the same token, imprints can depress the immune system, and it can take a long time for us to regain our health during illness. When we erase the negative imprint that caused the onset of illness, the immune system can rapidly eradicate the disease.
The Chakras
The chakras are energy centres, like energy transformers, which are formed within our Luminous Energy Field. Each of the seven chakras correspond directly with the endocrine system in our body and help to transmit energy to other energy centres, such as the meridians, which in turn direct this energy to where it is most needed. Chakras are swirling disks of energy, spinning three to four inches outside of the body, rotating clockwise, in the same direction that the spiral arms of the galaxy revolve. The chakras link to our spine and central nervous system and are a direct pipeline to the human neural network. An important role of the shaman is to clear toxic or heavy energies that have accumulated in one or more of these energy centres. When our chakras are blocked we are prone to physical or mental ill health.
The Shamanic Practices that I Offer
As a disciple of Alberto Villoldo, and a graduate of his renowned "Four Winds Light Body School" in USA, I have studied the energy techniques of the Queros Shamans, from the high Andes in Peru. Below is a list of some of the shamanic energy work that I offer to clients:
Chakra Cleansing & Balancing
Releasing emotional imprints and heavy energies from the chakra centres and central nervous system for greater vitality in body and mind.
Shadow work and Extractions
Shedding light on subconscious patterns of thought and emotion from the past, and the breaking through of any internal obstacles or indeed intrusive entities attached to the Luminous Energy Field.
Soul Retrieval Journeying
Journeying for the client to parallel worlds in order to reclaim parts of themselves that were lost due to early childhood trauma, and to create new pathways through both mind and body.
Perinatal, Birth & Ancestral Healing
Transforming imprints from the gestation and birth phases of life, to release the familial and ancestral stories that the client no longer needs to carry.
Meditation and Self-Observation
Guiding the client to journey into his inner landscape to observe the emotions, thoughts and beliefs that create holding patterns in the energy and physical bodies.
Soul Mapping & Integration
Creating a new map of the soul, connecting the client to his intuition and inner knowing, thus integrating his understanding on all levels of body, mind and spirit.
Psychic Surgery
Cutting toxic energetic cords that bind the client to another person and are doing him harm
Accompanying the Dying & Offering The Great Death Rites
This is incredibly important and sacred work, which is usually completely overlooked these days, where patients die alone in clinical environments, often far from family, and confused through the use of strong drugs. This "modern" way of dying and confronting the end of life can provoke a difficult death, with the patient often clinging to life in great fear and, in this state of resistance, unable to be guided towards the luminous beings who will accompany him Home. This shamanic work allows the patient to die consciously, after having made peace, both with others and his own inner self, at all four levels of perception. Where possible, profound communication with loved ones is encouraged, and supported by the shaman, with a life review, recapitulation and forgiveness as the ultimate objectives. All of these preparations lighten the patient's luminous energy body, helping him to face this rite of passage with a new consciousness. At the moment of death, or soon after, the Great Death Rites help to lighten and liberate the energy body as it is released and guided on its journey towards the light.
The Munay-Ki Rites of Initiation
The prophecies of the ancient Americas speak about a period of great transformation, and foretell of a new human appearing on the planet – persons of wisdom and power who live free of fear and abide in their eternal nature, Homo luminous.
The nine Rites of the Munay-Ki transform and upgrade your luminous energy field. They are energetic transmissions that heal the wounds of the past-the karmic & genetic programs and beliefs you inherited. They re-inform your DNA, enabling you to grow a new body that ages, heals, and dies differently.

Although the shaman can access altered states of consciousness during his sessions, using sound - normally through a rattle or a drum -
I can confirm that my shamanic treatments never involve herbs or any hallucinogenic substances of any kind.
Disclaimer: Although Shamanic Energy Healing has been proven again and again as highly beneficial for individuals, there can be no promise of a cure. We never make a physical diagnosis. Please always seek medical advice with your registered medical doctor or other medical professional.
